Superbowl XLVIII The Baltimore Ravens took on the San Fancisco 49ers at the 49th Superbowl on Sunday, February 3, 2013. This year's location for the Superbowl was in New Orleans, at the New Orleans Saints' Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Ravens won the game with a final score of 34 to 31. Although the Ravens took the lead early on in the game against the 49ers, their momentum was killed by the power outage in the stadium during the 3rd quarter of the game. The stadium lights shut off for about half an hour. After the game resumed the game completely changed. It no longer looked like the game would be a blowout, instead it became an intense game, and a close battle. Yet Baltimore held off San Francisco, and Ravens fans everywhere celebrated as their team got the victory.
Beyonce, along with her fellow former Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, performed the half time show. Popular songs, such as Single Ladies and Crazy in Love. Fans surrounded the stage, exstatic to experience this once in a life time chance. Not only was the performance great, but the special effects as well. This superbowl was especially monumental for Raven's football player Ray Lewis. Superbowl XLVIII was Lewis's last ever, ending his NFL career with a win. Although sad to leave the family he had made in his team, Ray Lewis was looking forward to spending more time with his family. |
Gun Control Controversy
As citizens of the United States of America we have the right to "bare arms," as stated in our Constitution. I do agree that gun violence has become a major problem in America and that steps should be taken to gain control over the situation but banning specific guns and high magazines is not a solution. More thought needs to be put into the topic and into finding a more solid solution.
Credit should be given to our politicians for trying to come up with a way to decrease gun violence but I believe they are taking things a little too far. I do agree with the idea of making it necessary for EVERYONE who buys ANY kind of gun to go through a stricter and more critical background check. I also, believe that everyone in legal possession of a gun should have to go through a gun training class. Yet I do not think that it is right to put a ban on high-capacity magazines or semi-automatic rifles. With resposible, qualified, and stable owners neither of these are problems, as long as the guns and magazines are well accounted for.
